are the burned/pressed ones mounted, have u tried to mount them?? ie: doing into places/my computer, etc.. and double-cliking on the dvd/cd icon, etc..??

If the drive is making grinding gurgly noises, it's probably the drive, the ability to burn and read burned disks is often the first thing to go.

How old is your laptop?
Did it ever play burnt discs?
When did it stop?
What happened or was changed just before it stopped?
