the transparent thingies showing stats. I don't use KDE & i don't think they're in gnome, are they?

Well that's KDE. Probably Karamba, which I think KDEs widget/screenlets program is called.

Those seem to be plasmoids, if not then they are from superkaramba.

kthx when i get tired of ringsensors I think i'll give KDE a try.

Actually I think thats KDE3 with karamba, the panel is too clean :D

Ah, of course. Why didn't i see it the first time?
And at the bottom right you can see in the proccess-monitor that it is indeed superkaramba.

Karamba. KDE4 does not have all those plasmoids.
