when using compiz as my windows manager, pressing alt tab switches the window which is in view, but does not select it ready to type... this has led to ....much embarrassment....when using amsn as it has meant things get typed to the wrong person..

this is not a problem when using metacity, but i cant use metacity because amsn convos dont flash when a new messages is received.

any help would be greatly appreciated as i have googled around to avail for 3 days straight.

thanks in advanced

Try opening up the "application switcher" plugin in the compiz fusion manager and see if something got unmarked or something.

Or use the "shift switcher" plugin instead. That one is activated by pressing "super + tab".

Super is also known as the meta key or the key with the windows logo on it.

You could set this plugin to open when using "alt+tab" in the bindings dialog of the plugin if you don't want to change your habit.
