View Full Version : [ubuntu] From U 7.10 (2.6.22-14) to Music

Hi Everybody!

On my HP Compac nc6000 (1.6 GHz, 1.5 GB RAM, 60 GB HD) the Ubuntu 7.10, with Kernel 2.6.22-17 generic installation is working fine.

The goal is to upgrade, in an orderly fashion, to end with all the stuff of Ubuntu Studio, Audio only, being installed. I'm a Musician, and already know Audacity, Lilypond, Muse and some others. They fill my needs.

First question: should I start upgrading only the System, and then upgrade software, or let the Upgrade manager do by its own will in a single process?

Second question: will a RealTime Kernel be required? When, and how should I get it installed?

Third and last: move from there to "Ubuntu Studio" (only Audio, no graphics nor video), which includes Lilypond, Rosegarden, &c., &c.? Or is there another or better way to get the goal?

So far I found no problem using the Update manager, it works fine. And also had no problems in adding some programs from the Ubuntu repositories. That is, I had "a little practice" :-) and the experience was rewarding!

Your advise will be appreciated!
