I am running primarily Windows. I need a Linux dual boot to run some molecular modeling software.

I would like to install the basics along with Ubuntu like OpenOffice, Firefox, Beryl, etc...

How large a partition should I create?

Thanks,

If my memory serves correctly, I think 8.04 Hardy recommends a minimum of 10 gig. Again, if I remember correctly the new installation takes somewhere around 4.5 gig. If I am wrong someone will correct these numbers. It has been a few months since I needed those numbers, so I may be be off.

Hope it helps.

10 gigs should be plenty for a test install, if you have the space I would recommend 15-20 gigs. If you are anything like me, my test install of Ubuntu ended up getting used more that Windows, now I barely boot into it.
