The thing I love about Linux is the ability to tinker around with the system. That being said, is there a way to create a restore point as a safe guard for when things dont go as planned? Thanks

We call it a backup.

Have a look in Synaptic. There are various tools in there for backing up your system. I must like living life on the edge, because I don't use any of them.

There is no "official" system restore in ubuntu yet, however i believe laroza has been working one one which went 1.0 the other day.

Albeit on a much smaller scale than LaRoza's excellent work, I am working on a project for a tool that creates backups of installed packages automatically.

I am currently working to completely re-structure the code and adding a few features; however, you can find the current stable version here:
