View Full Version : [ubuntu] 8.04.1 Can't partition/recognize drive.

I've got an old computer and I'm trying to do a clean install. This is the first time I've ever hit any snags using the Ubuntu installer.

The machine has a 60GB internal Maxtor IDE Drive. I've tried to partition using the manual method and the auto "use full disk" method. Either way I end up with an error like "the attempt to mount a file system with type ext3 in scsi1 (0,0,0), partition #1 (sda) at / failed"

When I use the Live CD to terminal into the box I see absolutely nothing when I type sudo fdisk -l. Also the partitioning tool that ships with the Live CD fails to find any internal hard disks.

I think it's strange that it's trying to place an IDE hard disk into a SCSI bracket (/dev/sda).

Any ideas??
