Greetings to all,
I'm new to linux and want to use ubuntu as my first distro.
I used ubuntu 7.10. I mean i installed it and used it as a beginner for a very short period of time. Now i have ubuntu 8.01
dvd. Previously i installed ubuntu 8.01 cd. After finishing the installation of the cd and after the first boot i found myself the beautiful desktop. But there was a problem. It was slow enough that i couldn't even move the mouse smoothly and select any option from
what should i call the upper taskbar. I had to restart from my cpu.
then it was all okey. But the problem occurred from time to time.
With the dvd the problem prevails.
i used manual partion on my 80 gb hdd.
partion:
partion no: partion type: size: mb
1 primary \ 100240
2 logical swap 512
3 logical \home 20000+
4 primary ntfs 20000+
5 primary ntfs 24000+

The last two partition was from my windows.
first 30000+ mb was free space.
my system spec:
Intel Pentium D 3.0GHz
512 MB DDR2 RAM
Intel 945GCNL Motherboard
1 asus 16x dvd rom
1 samsung 20x dvd writer
ps/2 keyboard and usb mouse

What is the problem?
Again what is the deference between a cd and dvd of ubuntu?

I would like to thank all of you in advance.:)
It feels great to know that there is always someone to help.

Though i'm a beginner to this ubuntu os.
But this one rocks.
Looking forward to use this one as my only os.
