Hey, I tried installing Ubuntu 8.04 on my laptop (Sony Vaio VGN-FZ38M) the Live CD works fine with no errors at all, but every time i try to partition the hard drive using the setup (When you go to install) it will give me the option of resizing, i resize my Windows Vista partition, so that Ubuntu has 30.02GB of space of the rest of the 200GB is left for Windows, however when i go to format the drive to two separate partitions it hangs on 0%, i have tried this a number of times and also have tried installing from the CD without using the Live option. I know that the hard drive has a recovery partition setup, but is hidden on Windows, could this affect the partitioning of the hard drive?

Try using the vista resize tool to shrink your vista partition down instead of using the ubuntu installer to do this. Maybe defrag a couple of times and see if that works, if not then maybe considering unhiding the hidden partition.
