Hide non-minimized windows in window list panel?

I'm running gnome under 8.10 alpha with compiz

This is my first vanilla ubuntu, I ran kubuntu for about a year. In kde, I could hide open windows the task bar, so apps would only show up in the taskbar when they are minimized.

I would like to keep this behavior in gnome. I cannot find an option, will gnome allow this? If not, will devilspie help me?
