In general, I don't get too worked up over hardware. My Gateway is reliable, and I don't need anything else. However, this little Acer (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115495) looks SO nice... I want one! Has anybody tried one of these little guys?

Have had a play with one in a shop, nice hardware shame about the distro.
The cheapest Acer Aspire One is £200 here in the UK, that's easily the best value netbook currently available.

I did have one on preorder for a while before they were released but the delivery date kept being put back.
In the end I lost patience and bought an Asus F9E (http://www.asus.com/prog_content/middle_enlargement.aspx?model=1833) 12" Core 2 Duo laptop instead.
I do not regret the decision.

I have an acer aspire one that came with a 6cell battery, 1 gig RAM and 8gb solid state drive.

I absolutely love it, even though it does work somewhat imperfectly atm.
(Linpus that it comes with has no root password on terminal access so user can go to root easily, doesn't support wpa2 enterprise, can't update packages because of unresolvable dependancy conflicts, webcam doesn't work properly, mic doesn't work)
Put onelinux ubuntu on it, at least it works with wpa2 now, even if battery life is worse. Honestly, I'd stick with linpus and better boot times and battery performance if its package manager worked and it had wpa2. Really I love the machine, great piece of hardware, but currently out of the box oses aren't cutting it. On no distro so far do mic and webcam work properly.

I don't know if it's just here in Denmark, but we have a "plague or cholera"-choice in regards to the Acer One. Either we can get:

1. 8 GB solidstate and 512 mb ram linux version. Cheaper.

or

2. 120 GB "normal" HD and 1 GB ram windows version. More expensive.

I wish they'd just add the price-difference to the linux-version, get more ram and a bigger solidstate-HD. That would rock.

Yeah yeah I know, there's the eee 901 linux-version. I sooo want that. Only qualm I have about that (as I've heard through the grape-vine) is the keyboard-size. However it's smaller than the Acer One, and has a better mousepad.

+1 Dell Inspiron Mini 9 sometime in my near future.

The only thing that throws me off the Aspire One is the placement of the touchpad buttons, if I am to use my netbook on the go, I don't expect to be carrying around a BT mouse w/ me all of the time and this is enough to make me look elsewhere. Other than that the Aspire One is a fantastic piece of hardware for the money. =]

I like the WiBrain's form factor.
It has a bunch of cool features, but it'd be 100x more awesome if it had an SSD and the new VIA Nano instead of the C7-M.
Same goes with the g Netbook.
The g Netbook is 50$ cheaper and 2" smaller, but that's about it. The Meso was where it was at for Ubuntu netbooks until the Dell.

I have looked at the Acer, it is nicely priced, and nicely styled... but the touchpad pad buttons beside not below the touchpad is REALLY awkward.

The wind is a little bigger, but has been reviewed well, and comes with a real hard disk.

the dell would also be a serious contender for me... if they release a bigger battery and larger flash disk. also the EEE 901... but i have moderately large fingers and its a really teeeny keyboard.

I don't think the position of the "mouse" buttons on the Acer Aspire One is a problem at all and anyone would very quickly get used to it.

My old Toshiba had the buttons arranged horizontally, left click at the top, right click underneath.
Took about five minutes to get used to it.

Same as driving a car, the controls are not all in the same place in all cars, but you get used to the placings very quickly.

I liked the look of the Acer Aspire One until I went and had a look at one in 'the flesh'. To me the build quality on the Asus eeepc feels a bit more solid compared to the Acer.

Nice machine though, unfortunately the one I looked at was the Windows version, I havent come across the Linux version yet (which is something I'm eager to try out).

A friend was given one as a "thank you" gift. It's very nice and runs Ubuntu 8.04 quite well. I only had a chance to look for a couple of minutes, but it was pretty responsive. It comes with options for a small (comparably) solid-state drive or a traditional hard drive. My friend got the latter with, if memory serves me correctly, 120GB. The screen is smaller than some of the other netbooks available, but the keyboard feels more like a real keyboard than some of the others.
