Just ran across some interesting info about the Forums Site.
Visitors by Country: United States 29.8%
Germany 11.7%
Great Britain (UK) 7.5%
India 6.4%
Italy 3.5%
Canada 3.3%

Visitors by City: New York 2.3%
Los Angeles 2%
San Francisco 1.6%
London 1.5%
Santiago 0.9%
Athens 0.9%

Compete Rank: http://home.compete.com.edgesuite.net/site_media/images/icons/profile_3_16.gif #3,644 (http://whois.domaintools.com/go/?compete=ubuntuforums.org) with 462,344 U.S. visitors per month

Wikipedia: Listed on 105 pages (http://www.domaintools.com/enwikipedia/ubuntuforums.org)

My question is are there more Ubuntu users in U.S.? Or is it something else? I thought being a U.K. site it would be visited by more European Ubuntu users.

There probably are more English speaking Ubuntu users in the USA than anywhere else. ubuntuforums.org is the official English language Ubuntu forums site. There are ones in other languages too http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community/webforums

I didn't expect India to be fourth.
Or do I visit these forums far too much? :)

I don't find this particularly surprising - Linux is especially popular in developing countries, as Microsoft Vista for $200+ can be horrendously expensive. I actually read a few months ago that all Indian schools are switching to Ubuntu. It's great to see a new generation learning Linux, and not growing up up with the misconception that "Windows is it". Unfortunately, here in Canada, Windows is simply to ingrained for most users to make the switch - getting a Mac is considered a big enough move away from Microsoft!

Normalized values by the entire population of the respective countries don't point to more Linux users in the U.S. anymore.

Total population, wikipedia 2008 estimates:
US: 305,149,000
Germany: 82,218,000
UK: 60,975,000

Normalization:
US: 29.8 / 3.05 = 9.77
Germany: 11.7 / 0.82 = 14.27
UK: 7.5 / 0.61 = 12.30

14.27 > 12.30 > 9.77

--> i.e. relatively speaking, greater parts of the German and UK populations are active on these forums than are U.S. Americans

Yeah, it's the lauguage factor.

I saw a video of sabdfl saying that Ubuntu is very popular in Eastern Europe and Brazil.

Obviously, many of them would not use the English language forums.

You seem to forget that this is an English forum.

About every country has his own forum.

I prefer the English forums because it is bigger and more professional.

I don't see how because something is from the UK, it would attract more mainland European visitors.
