hey there, i have recently dismantled an old machine of mine and want to give my lil brother the 40 gig seagate for an external hdd set up, but i formated the hdd for ubuntu, ( i had gutsy on this hdd last year). so i have hardy on my laptop and thought gparted would reformat it back to ntfs so my brother can use it for storage on his comp,(he has a dell with xp on it, pent 4 with 512mb ram and 30 gig hdd,) so anyways how can i reformat this drive so i can put it to good use or is it trash lol. thanks

by my understanding ntfs is something MS came up with. Best option would be to use FAT32 on the whole 40GB and then it can read and written by both XP and *nix.
