I have been trying to get my tablet to work on my Toshiba Portege M200 for awhile now. I have followed 2 'howto's" on the forums, first this one (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=590747) and then this one (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=767015) with no luck.

Also, this is my xorg.conf as of right now. I have made several changes to it, the last one being from the Linux Wacom project,

# xorg.conf (X.Org X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
# values from the debconf database.
#
# Edit this file with caution, and see the xorg.conf manual page.
# (Type "man xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
#
# This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
# if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
# package.
#
# If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
# again, run the following command:
# sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

Oy... I have a wacom Bamboo, same prob. I'd just get a different tablet with advertised Linux OTB support. Check www.dealextreme.com for some cheap ones. I feel your pain - when Ubuntu gets a prettier interface, and gets the kinks out of hardware support, it'll take the market by storm.

I should have mentioned though that this worked under Gutsy. And all that I had to do was change some things in my xorg.conf. If I make the same changes under Hardy, it breaks X. Going through all of this tutorials, nothing breaks... it just doesn't change anything.

Sorry, I've stopped trying. When someone has some luck, let me know. I should be able to make a script to automate the process. Quite frankly, I don't have Ubuntu on my main machine right now- simply because it doesn't dual-boot with Vista on one harddrive. I'd switch if I knew my favorite game ran on it- even though I only play once a month. As soon as I get another harddrive though, I will dedicate better of the two to Ubuntu, and may never use Windows again. I'll also try top modify WINE to run the game if possible. For the records, it's a web game at www.instantaction.com called Legions, which is actually based off of a Linux game called Legends.
