[SOLVED] Should I Upgrade my Laptop?

I was thinking about upgrading my laptop, but I am not sure if it would be worth it.

Current Specs:
- Compaq R3000Z
- AMD64 3000+ 1.8 GHz
- NVIDIA GeForce4 420 Go (32MB) graphic card
- 768MB PC2700 RAM
- 60GB 4200 RPM Fujitsu Hard Drive (I thought it was a 5400 RPM, but apparently it isn’t lol)

I took the laptop apart today to clean it out and was considering upgrading it a bit. I was thinking I would upgrade to 1GB (maybe 2GB) of RAM and a bigger 7200 RPM hard drive. I would upgrade the graphics card, but it’s not possible. I have a new Quad Core desktop so I have basically been using this as a server. I have a special attachment to this laptop and plan on using it until it dies. Do you think spending the 100-200 bucks upgrading the laptop is worth it? Thanks.

Sure absolutely. Get the two gigs of RAM. I did, and the machine flies. I don't know about a 7200 HD, if you use this as a portable, then that eats batteries. Maybe just a 5400 would do? You get more space with slower hard drives anyway.

I would just hold out and buy a new laptop in a year or two.

For $100 bucks I would be able to bump it up to 1.5GB of RAM and a 120GB 5400 RPM hard drive.

I have upgraded my laptop to 1.5GB of RAM and to a 120GB 5400 RPM laptop for under $100. I am pleased with the result.

It's always cheaper to buy memory sooner than later when they jack the price up. You'll notice a difference

Why can't you upgrade the graphics card? I'd like to know because I was thinking I might upgrade mine.

Although mine is a dedicated graphics card, it’s sautered into the motherboard and cannot be removed. On some laptops you can upgrade the graphics card. You will have to look up your model laptop to see if it can be removed as well as what cards your motherboard will be able to handle.
