Thanks Rick Wright for giving the world some truly wonderful music, including my all-time favourite track, Echoes from the album Meddle.

Echoes

Overhead the albatross hangs motionless upon the air
And deep beneath the rolling waves
In labyrinths of coral caves
The echo of a distant time
Comes willowing across the sand
And everything is green and submarine.

And no-one called us to the land
And no-one knows the wheres or whys
But something stirs and something tries
And starts to climb towards the light

Strangers passing in the street
By chance two separate glances meet
And I am you and what I see is me
And do I take you by the hand
And lead you through the land
And help me understand the best I can

And no-one calls us to move on
And no-one forces down our eyes
And no-one speaks and no-one tries
And no-one flies around the sun

Cloudless everyday you fall upon my waking eyes
inciting and inviting me to rise
And through the window in the wall
Come streaming in on sunlight wings
A million bright ambassadors of morning

And no-one sings me lullabies
And no-one makes me close my eyes
And so I throw the windows wide
And call to you across the sky

I guess we'll see him on the dark side of the moon :)

I wonder if he was afraid of dying...

"I'm certainly not afraid of dying..."

Is that what you were referring to? That's off the top of my head from Dark Side of the Moon. I forgot what track.

EDIT: Correction. "And I am not frightened of dying, any time will do, I
don't mind. Why should I be frightened of dying?
There's no reason for it, you've gotta go sometime."

That's the part I was thinking of. At the beginning of "The Great Gig in the Sky"

it would be great if you copy out the rest of the words to that song ;)

yep, certainly was a band which had an enormous impact on music. P.S. echoes is also one of my favourites (partly cos it was used on a psychadelic part of a surf film in the 1970's (crystal voyager), played over some beautiful images of waves breaking, with the camera inside the wave).

very underrated part of pink floyd in my opinion...

RIP. he will be missed :(To me Pink Floyd will never be the same without kind and sensitive Rick. He always was in a shade. That was his position. I cannot imagine Pink Floyd without Rick. What is Rick to me? He is a part of Pink Floyd, the legendary band that formed my taste and attitude in many aspects. So let's listen to the wonderful Rick's music, "Us And Them", "Great Gig In The Sky", "Marooned" and I personally like "Breakthrough" from his last solo album "Broken China", especially how he performed it on "Gilmour In Concert" DVD.

I can take or leave it, won't be the woebegone
Don't need a model universe to hang your pictures on.
You hide somewhere, you die somewhere
And then this senseless thought,
By hating more you're feeling more
And that's how you get caught.

They're never going to make it easy
Of this you can be sure.
I greet you from the wilderness,
I'll stay inside your door.

There's no cage or prison, they have no fence too tall,
You die more times that anyone, there's still no place to fall.

They're never going to keep it simple
This comes down from above.
I have no helm, no secret realm,
I dream to be at the heart of love, a part of love.

I bet you can conceal it, but that's just a dead-end track,
I'll cover you like the driven snow and then I'll bring you back.
You'll see ! you feel like, you feel like a banner,
Unfurled and gently blown,
And there before your opening eyes
The self you've never known.

They're never going to make it easy
Of this you can be sure.
You feel untied, beatified
And loved for evermoreI'm sure he's in the heart of love now...

P.S. A very warm article in Russian (http://www.lenta.ru/articles/2008/09/16/rick/).

I was shocked to hear this unfortunate news. I guess he's in the great gig in the sky now (as others have said), with Syd.

Defenitely. I always liked him. He had very gentle manners from birth. Yet I think he was a very kind one. He probably was in a shade but not for me...

Three days passed and I feel I have to share my thoughts with somebody. It appears that Rick is my personal friend. Not a rock/pop idol many people would die to get autograph or something but just a good friend. I think many people here can actually say the same. Pink Floyd is not about the fan thing in general IMHO. One of the reasons of their popularity is that they were always honest with their audience let alone their extreme professionalism and talent.

I have survived many deaths of my good friends and I can say that it takes you years to accept some of them. Rick actually taught me many things, he made me kinder and more tolerant. Just remember his 'Us And Them". There's something you gain just looking on some people I think, Richard was one of them for me. A type of persons that give your eyes rest and comfort if you understand me.

Too many words probably, but I had to share it, you see... So, shine on, Rick!
