Hi all,
I have been trying to install linux on my Dell Inspiron 1100, 2.4Ghz Celeron, 256MB RAM for some weeks now with many problems - as follows.
Ubuntu 8 doesnt seem to do much, as spec isnt good enough (i guess)
Xubuntu 8 freezes at 15% Detecting hard drive systems? maybe (cant remember exact phrase)
Xubuntu 7 gets confused with the screen, and even in low graphics mode the following script is all that happens
*Starting deferred execution scheduler atd [OK]
*starting periodic command schedular crond [OK]
*checking battery state... [OK]
*Running local boot scripts (/etc/rc.local) [OK]
_
thats it, flashing underscore, i can type in anything and nothing seems to start anything up to continue the install.
This is installing onto a brand new 120GB hard drive. I have gnparted which i formated the main to ext3 for ubuntu.
Any help would be great as I need to get this up and running this week or i might have to buy windows (ahh!!). Gonna try mandriva and see if the problems persist, but i hear 1100's are akward for linux whatever!
many thanks, matt
