i'm an absolute unconditional newbie to ubuntu and linux. i was infuriated by vista and am trying it out...
i have 2 problems so far:
1.how do i get the middle button on my thinkpad to work for scrolling?
2.i have an LG external CD/DVD writer that doesn't work. Are there any drivers that i can get?
please help...i need step by step instructions. assume i know nothing.

What model thinkpad? Middle button works just fine on my T30.
One odd thing about mine is I have to give it about 10 seconds after I login then double click one of the upper touch pad buttons, Then all works normally after that.
