Hi
I recently installed a copy of Ubuntu Studio 8 onto my computer but it's running unbelievably slowly whenever I try to use it. It takes well over an hour to fully install and when I try to boot it up it takes between 5 and 10 minutes just to get to the login screen and several more minutes after that to log in and show the desktop. I've rebuilt it with a totally clean installation several times, changing various options every time but nothing can make it run any faster. I've formatted and reformatted the hard drive and even tried playing about with the partitions but still no luck. According to my boss's friend who's a linux expert, it may be something to do with the options in the build but he still needs to get back to me. Anyone else had similar problems and have any hints? pc specs follow.
2GHz Pentium 4 processor
1GB RAM
30GB hard drive, partitioned into a 1.7GB SWAP partition and the rest into a root partition
No other operating systems installed
