Hi all,

I attempted to install ubuntu-server 8.0.4 LTS on a box with an Intel Pentium IV - D865GBF mainboard with two ATA Maxtor drives, the installer did not find any hard drives.

The box is currently running a different linux system, so it is not a hardware failure. For testing purposes also attampted to install ubuntu desktop 8.0.4 LTS with the same result.

I think an intel board and ATA drives must not be anything special for a modern operating system, so I must have badly missed something.

Regards

Boot a Live CD and post:
lshw

Hi,

I attached the output of lshw (made on Slackware linux, did not have the time to install a display and mouse to try with the LiveCD). After all, the problem is not that the discs are non-existent ;^) (ata-ide).

Ubuntu is an interesting project and I will surely look back later (let's say: in a couple of years).

(I posted the lshw-out with the intention helping others probably facing the same problem.)

Best regards
