View Full Version : What do corporates look for when applying for linux related jobs?

I'm considering looking for new job where I can work with linux corporate environments. Something along LAMP-servers, possibly linux alternatives to MS AD and Exchange. I don't want to be picky though, just as long as I can get a decently paid job and can advance from there.

So far almost everything I know about linux environments are self-learned, I don't have official training in anything linux. I don't have real job experience when it comes to linux.

So I'm asking, what are corporates looking for when checking résumés and interviewing people? How I can increase my changes to get a new job? Are there for example a certificate or few I really should pick up? Anything else that would look good on résumé and negate lack of job expertise?

Currently I have seven years worth of experience at end-user/corporate tech support (windows platforms) with some windows server experience thrown into the mix. The linux ecperience I have gathered mainly from setting up LAMP-servers for a web-community and experimenting at home. But they do little for me as corporate environments are on totally different scale.

Throw me some hints, please. :)

LPI (http://www.lpi.org/) certifications might help add value to your resume.

It means if you are LPI certified, you will be kicked around like a (foot) ball. LOL!
