there must be scan disk utility or something i have many power failures recently can anyone have idea how to check if everything is alright on the disk or data is corrupted or how to fix it if it has

I had to check my desktop hard drive recently, and was told to use my live-cd, open up the terminal, navigate to your hard drive and use this command:

fsck -f

if you can afford one, get a UPS. (Uninterruptable Power Supply) it saved my computer a few times.

Dropping it from a skyscraper should do the trick too.

Get a UPS. The steamroller idea sounds good too
