I don't think Microsoft shareholders are really losing a lot of sleep about Linux.

Personally i'd subscribe to this prediction:

The daring analyst will allow for a slow rate of growth beyond the the current level, rapidly approaching a limit: Linux growing slowly from 2.5% of market share to say 5.0% in a decade or two.

Couldn't be bothered reading the whole thing. If people want to waste their money on windows let them off I say. At least it means I dont have to worry about viruses and spyware, and have antivirus software and firewalls eating up my memory.

What I find to be sad is that a lot of Windows users would be thrilled to have a distro like Ubuntu if they only knew it existed. Windows being pre-loaded is the main reason for their market share dominance. Not because it's a "better" OS. And I don't really believe the numbers on Linux. I think it's a bigger share than anyone really bothers keeping track of.

Linux has about 1 percent of PCs, MAC about 5 percent, MS about the rest. Nothing to brag about.

linux will easily beat out windows very very quickly
when any windows based program can easily be installed and run on linux. that day is not yet here.
but its not very far off!

Absolutely. The mistake a lot of Linux fanboys make is in thinking that the most technically capable OS will end up on the most desktops. That's just not the case at all, as the all-conquering juggernaut of Windows has proved.

Bottom line, bug #1 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1) isn't getting fixed anytime soon.
