Ok, I found this book online called "Understanding the Linux Kernel, 2nd Edition" from Oreilly. It seems to be somewhat dated since it talks about the 2.2 kernel and touches somewhat on the 2.4 one. I have 2 questions about this.

1) Is going through this book worth it if you want to know more about how the kernel works?
2) If not, what's a more recent publication?

Without having a knowledge of the kernel, or how a kernel works, it would probably be very beneficial. Once you understand it, you can just familiarize yourself with the changes since that version.

Well, the reason why I asked is because 2.6 and 2.4 are very much different (from what I've heard) and it's way ahead of 2.2.
