looks fake to me. I've seen the still pictures and read how they do it, so I figure the weird grey blobby shadows in that vid are photoshopping or something.

Those are stills.

The guy with the quicktime movie probably set up his webcam on the back side of his screen and set it to display as his wallpaper. Or it's fake :)

That would be a very determined hoaxer... interesting concept though.

Not all that hard to do. I could set mine up to do that in a few minutes.

Then that's some big webcam. The picture was accurate and there was no zoom. The only way to actually tell is if you move from left to right while watching the screen. If it is real, the screen would be in real sync with the angle that you're wiewing from. He could've photoshopped it the F-B-F (Frame-By-Frame) method used in some movies. One notable viewing is the intro of Jimmy Kimmel Live, as there is some serious F-B-F used in it. :)

Ya, after watching it a few more times, it looks kinda fake.

But aren't LCD displays transparent if you take the back and backlight off? Maybe that's how he did it.

But then why is the background lighter when seen thru the lcd? Makes no sense.

I vote fake.

take a picture of what is behind your monitor and make that the wallpaper...

It really isn't that simple. For that to happen, you would need to keep it still. I wonder why he didn't show us the back... :???:

How the hell does someone hack Apple hardware?

This link (http://www.flickr.com/photos/w00kie/7292762/in/set-180637/) I think proves its fake. The wires look odd in this picture. But the effects of some of the others are very good.

Like someone said, it's just a photo of whatever is behind the laptop set as the wallpaper. The guy even says on the flickr page "this is his REAL desktop image". He doesn't say "they invented a transparent monitor hack"

The window frame isn't lined up correctly in this one (http://static.flickr.com/5/7235381_f6d709c00f.jpg?v=0)
