Hi Bryan, "light" is a relative term. I would say that Ubuntu is "light" compared to Windows Vista. It is "heavy" compared to a lot of other Linux distros. That heaviness is a good thing for people who are beginners to Linux, or who want functionality on par with Windows, or want good hardware detection/support, or have modern computers and want "eye candy."

My personal experience is that Ubuntu runs okay, but kind of slow, on a Pentium 3 with 256mb of ram (if you install with the Alternate CD), and a Pentium 4 with 512mb or better is my recommendation if you want good performance.

(edit: ps I am talking about Ubuntu in this post, not Xubuntu, Fluxbuntu, minimal install with IceWM,etc. :))
