View Full Version : [ubuntu] Screensaver menu freezing (Is it my 3D Compiz's fault?)
September 11th, 2008, 03:21 PM
I'm using Ubuntu 7.10. When I open the screen-saver menu it's freezing. I can use my mouse-cursor, but it won't let me close any windows on my screen or choose a new background. Please help me solve this problem.
I appreciate any help y'all can offer. Thanks in advance!

It's possible there is some conflict between compiz and your video card / chipset.
What happens when you turn off compiz? Does the problem disappear?

Thanks, panhandle. How do I turn Compiz off? I don't see any option for it when I right click. I've also tried clicking on it to turn it off. The screen refreshes, but the Compiz features still work.
Also, when my screensaver comes on now, it's also freezing the computer. I have to restart to get it off the screen.

Turning off Compiz is easy.
System-->Preferences-->Appearance-->Visual Effects Tab-->select the "none" option.
If this is not the solution, you can switch compiz back on via the same route, only select "Extra."
