View Full Version : [ubuntu] Brand new to this, why doesnt my external monitor work?

hey guys. i just got done installing ubuntu and the only thing that shows is the start-up process. i have a 32" sharp LCD hooked up via VGA to my laptop(toshiba u305) and it works fine with vista...but i cant for the life of me figure out how to get it to display ubuntu or why it wont. again, all that shows it the bootscreen. please help, i searched external display and lcd screen but i cant seem to find a post about my specific problem. please help a noob!:-(

try messin with your refresh rate. if that doesn't work, look around on the forums/internet to make sure you've got the right driver installed for that monitor, and if you do have a suitable driver, mess with the settings (ie resolution) on it.

sometimes large monitors/TVs refresh at different rates than normal monitors.

well i guess i jumped the gun...apparently it was in one of the 117 updates i just installed. works perfect now.
