View Full Version : how do i increase my desktop space ?

is there any way how to increase my desktop space, i do know that desktop 1 ...2...3....etc but same icons follow on other desk spaces is there some method so that i can increase my space and next desk space is clean and clear so that i can place some new icons in ever increasing space

I don't use desktop icons; you could try that :)

i generally place my file and all on desktop just for quick reference and it soon get filled up

I find myself doing this to. What I have to do is every week or two, I have to go through, and see what links I still use a lot, and those that I don't, go into folders.

You can stretch some icons and make them a bit smaller.

Yeah I keep my desktop completely clean from any icons (but before I used Linux, when I used Windows my icons filled up half of the screen, so I find it weird that I don't have any icons on my Linux desktop).

I have widescreen monitors, so I use a vertical taskbar on the left side of the screen. Definately takes less space, and maximized windows can have a bit more height (which means they can show more lines of code etc).

I have yet to break that habit as I have windows users who come over to my house to use my computer...
Most of them seem to like linux actually.

Use something like xmonad, or cardinals_fan xfce setup. I suggest wmii for first time tiler users.

its not the space i need to tile my windows but space for parking my files applications icons etc something like this http://www.360desktop.com/

Do you mean have different files for different desktops? That's not possible at the moment. Might I suggest you actually organise your files? I've started to do it, and it's cleared up my desktop quite a lot :)

but have you seen 360 desktop in windows its for free to use i just tried it its reall cool would love to have it in ubuntu too

It's easy in GNOME. Everything is organised for you.
