Is it possible to setup the Desktop so that it automatically logs in as a user without prompting for the user ID and password?

I had a previous old desktop setup to run SuSE and I know that it supported this feature.

go to system, admin, login. from there you can change how users login.

Yes. In GNOME it's in System/Administration/Login Window.

On the Gutsy Desktop, it's under System>Administration>Login Window>Security>Enable Automatic Login

WOW, I must type slow...
