I use the terminal to find out some informations about chmod. And in the terminal it says that we can change the permissions with two command. The first is chmod u,g,o,a r,w,x,x and the second is chmod xxxx (x=a number).I haven't any problem with the first command but with the secind (chmod xxxx) i could not understand how to use it.Please can you make explain me and make me some examples. Also where can i find the id numbers of the users and the id numbers of the groups.

Thanks in advance

The Ubuntu wiki has a guide on permissions (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FilePermissions).
You can look at the /etc/group file to find #'s.
