Ubuntu Frezzes when closing monitor in laptop

Hey there.... im running ubuntu 8.04 on a HP compaq 6720s but everytime i close the laptop's monitor when i open it again ubuntu is completely FREZZED. only solution is to har-boot.

is there any fix for this?

right click your battery daemon then choose preferences, take a screenshot, upload it so we can see it. then maybe somebody can help you.

The same problem occurs with my Compaq 6720s; whenever i close the lid and then open it, Ubuntu freezes.

I have the do nothing option selected when i close the lid.

Any input would be appreciated.

I have same problem (Compaq 6720s, Ubuntu 8.04). I tried different options for closed lid (in a power management preferences), but it always freezes.

This problem was solved for me when I upgraded to Intrepid Ibex 8.10.
