View Full Version : [ubuntu] Komposor, Dreamweaver alternatives?

Hi all,

It's been covered before, so really I am looking for alternatives to Dreamweaver. A wysiwyg. I have tried the below, and although komposer is ok, it's lacking, and I see there's no more updates.

I know code is better, but I am looking for a wysiwyg like DW

I know the alternative is to do the wine and DW8 solution, but still hoping to find something else. I have CS3, will that work with wine if all else fails?

Still, if anyone knows of another wysiwyg for linux it would be great to try it out!

There is Quanta... it is KDE based so you'll get a lot of dependencies that go with it but I hear it's pretty good.

Quantra is more of a code based editor. It will give you a gui output as you code, but can't edit in the gui from what I remember.

Your best choices are Kompozer or Dreamweaver in Wine. CS3 will run, but it will take some tweaking. Kompozer is good, but im too used to dreamweaver and I just couldn't get into it.

What I do is use VMware and install XP. Then use that to run Dreamweaver CS3 and Photoshop. Works well for me. Dreamweaver in wine didn't work out well.

EDIT: sorry, almost forgot about Amaya. Worth a shot to try http://www.w3.org/Amaya/

Thanks for those replies guys.

I am still messing with Komposer but miss DW and so keep booting back to it. I guess the VMware alternative is my only option for a wysiwyg. I read the Amaya docs but saw it as a code based app and not wysiwyg.

I guess I will start playing with VMare and CS3 now!
