View Full Version : [other] Inspiron 1520 power supply failure

All of a sudden my Inspiron 1520 power supply has given up the ghost.

It's a 90W-AC Adaptor that outputs 19.5V 4.62A charging a dell 9 cell battery.

I have a power supply from my old Inspiron 6400 which has the same adaptor but has different ratings.

65W-AC adaptor, output 19.5V 3.34A used to charge the dell 6 cell battery the old laptop used.

Is it safe for me to use that power supply until I manage to get a replacement?

Havn't even plugged it into the laptop yet, just in case, if anyone could help it would be great because battery is at 33% and falling with no spare! Sounds like a nightmare scenario to me !

Yes, it's generally safe to use any Dell adaptor with any other Dell system.

The BIOS will detect 65W adaptors on systems that can require more power, warn you, and run the system in low power mode (your CPU is placed in the lowest power state). You can also charge the battery with a 65w adaptor with the system powered off with no problems.
