I recently was given by a friend a Compaq Armada 7400. It was running Windows Millennium :-k. I have a live cd of the new 8.04. The Armada is a Pentium II i think 233 MHz with 64 MB SDRAM, 4 GB HDD. What i'm trying to do is find a way to install ubuntu without any windows interface. I want to start learning using the command line. The hard disk is formated so the only thing i can do is boot from a cd. Is there a way to load in some kind of a live terminal session and install in some way from it? It also has one usb but booting from it i believe is not an option.
Ideas anyone????

64MB is not enough RAM to use the Ubuntu installer, I believe 128 is the minimum for the alternate install cd. The LiveCD installer needs 256MB I think.
What you are basically asking for the is alternate install cd, but again, you don't have enough RAM with only 64MB.

Unless you upgrade the RAM (which for a computer that old, you shouldn't bother), you will probably want to try a smaller distribution, like Damn Small Linux (DSL) or Puppy Linux. They are pretty minimal, but that's a pretty old computer...

I don't mind if the OS will be minimal. I was thinking of working only in command line. No GUI installed. I 'll try with one of those. Thanks for the quick reply.

If you want GUI: DSL (http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/), Puppy (http://www.puppylinux.org/) or maybe Ubuntulite (http://ubuntulite.tuxfamily.org/).
If you want command line: Ubuntu mini iso (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD)

I am afraid that using mini.iso is not possible since there is no way to connect to the Internet. I 'll have to dig-out the ISDN modem and old cables from my closet. Maybe I'll try tomorrow.

There is a bug in Hardy installer which makes it impossible to install it on systems with less than 128 MB ram. See CLI in my sig.
