Hey guys,
I just got a Brother HL-2140 off of newegg, and was hoping to plug it into my file server and share it on the network but my knowledge of printers in linux is 0.

I've tried looking around but didn't really find anything particularly insightful for my case.

I assumed I would have to install a driver, but some sources say the printer should be detected automatically.

I don't really know anything about CUPS or anything like that.

Printer shows up on lsusb but not on lshw

Any help is appreciated. Guides or packages I should install would be great! Thanks.

You probably tried this already but lets ask in case your missed this :

Go into Administration -> Printing

Then click new printer

Select Brother as the manufacturer

Then as this link says :
http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Brother-HL-2140

Use the HL 2060 driver for this printer
So select this printer model and all should work OK

I do not own this printer so ....i cannot test this... just tell me if this worked !
