View Full Version : [ubuntu] file .exe

hello there,
i've tried to install program from cd through icon .exe and ubunt don't run!
I tried with several softwares (originals) with no results. Anyone knows why? Thanks.

1) Ubuntu does not work with .exe, you have to install wine, but even then not all programs work 100%
2) What application are you trying to install? What does this program do? Maybe there is an alternative program, open source and free.
3) Try searching at menu Applications > Add/remove - be sure to select to show: "All available applications"

that's the executable file format that windows uses, it won't run natively on any other OS(including linux).
linux uses the elf format instead.

thanks for your replies. I'm trying to download wine now. The program is Rainbow 6

Ok. wine is working fine. Now the setup is telling me that I need Windows Media player 5.2 or greater for the program to be installed. Does this mean I can't install it? or is there a way around this?

Do you have a link for the program? What does it do? Maybe there's an alternative
