I must be behind the times but just noticed the ability to send sms messages from firefox to another persons phone -- via the Google Send to Phone extension is dead? Any other alternatives to this? History on why the project was cancelled?

It's been a few years since I checked on this so I'm not sure, but i believe you can just send an email to the phone # at phone company.com. So it would be like 5555555555@cingularwireless.com

Wouldn't you have to pay for that though?

It works for me...

ATT MMS: xxxxxxxxxx@mms.att.net
ATT SMS: xxxxxxxxxx@att.net(?)

Verizon MMS: xxxxxxxxxx@vzwpix.com
Verizon SMS: xxxxxxxxxx@vtext.com

These are the two of all major carriers in the US

Ok, good I thought I was remembering something incorrectly. Ever since I got a blackberry a while ago I stopped using this method.

If your plan doesn't include any text messages then you would pay for each you send/receive.
