Okay, this is an unusual post.
I have been using linux since RH7.3, but usually on the server side. When Gentoo was hot, I spent dozens of hours hours working with and customizing my laptop as a desktop system.
The other day after my pirated XP gaming/pr0n box finally succumbed to malware and viruses, I stuck ubuntu 8.04 in and flicked the switch.
It found and configured the sound, video, wireless, ntfs rw, everything, flawlessly. The last time I installed a gentoo desktop on modern hardware, it took me two days. The ubuntu installation took 15 minutes.
This distro is amazing. I still can't believe how well everything works.
Thanks,
Erich
