Is there / can it be assigned a shortcut key binding for Applications menu in Xfce?

if im not mistaken you go in under system , presences should be a key board short cuts tab maybe you can do it there this is from 8.0 Ubuntu

I don't understand what you mean. My context is Xubuntu 8.04

I don't know how the Applications menu is implemented in Xubuntu, but you can try binding a keyboard shortcut to the command xfce4-popup-menu.

mali2297, thanks. The shortcut seems to be Ctrl-Esc. It was in keyboard preferences whereas I searched it in Window manager preferences.
