Emesene, nice clean and simple, nothing complex.

finch, a terminal client.

I like its simplicity, small size and support for many protocols (it uses libpurple, what pidgin uses)

Kopete vecause it supports lots of protocols and it's KDE native. Pidgin I use on my non KDE boxes and Windows though.

Yes, but it's still buggy in my opinion.

I generally use pidgin, but sometimes use finch or kmess.

Pidgin because of the plugin for xfire (gfire).
Used aMSN before I found gfire.

kmess 2 alpha 2

I like the classic interface and the ability to see what clients my contacts are using

Pidgin. It comes preinstalled, is easy to set up, and does everything I need it to do.

i'm promoting skype to everyone I know. Excellent sound quality, nice messenger and gui, and it's secure.
for my friends who refuse to use, I will message them with pidgeon.

I've heard that it is actually not secure (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skype#Security_concerns).

Then again, Pidgin stores your password as plain text. So...

I use Gajim for Jabber and it supports GPG encryption to clients that support it also. So that is generally all of my contacts list :D

Adium on my Macs, Pidgin on my Linux/Windows machines.

Versatility above all else.

Pidgin, as it's nice, quite stable, it has many plugins and it supports both Gadu-Gadu and Jabber protocols, which I use.

aMSN. because most of the people I know are on MSN.
and because it supports webcam, plus has a host of other tools which I like.
Now if they can implement use of voice and better support for winks, it will be perfect.
