I have been wondering why compizconfig-settings-manager isn't installed by default in ubuntu. I see "How do I get the desktop cube to work?" really often. Also, I'd venture to guess that the majority of Ubuntu users end up installing it anyways.
I checked the brainstorm and saw this question... I haven't checked the forum yet, but I'm betting it has been brought up. I just wanted to hear some fresh views on it.
