Maybe you should try it again, I just tried and the site came up like it should.

After a hacking of gnomefiles yesterday, I think that was the final blow to the site — which was in decline anyway. It’s now offline (redirects to osnews), and it will probably stay that way — unless someone wants to spend days of reading logs in order to find and patch the hole. I hope the Gnome community find a way to replace it eventually. It was a good run.

I connect from Italy, Milan and what I see is "OSNews is Exploring the future of Computing", one ugly website that completely replaced gnomefiles.org... also if you check from getdeb.net, on the left and bottom, before there were the links to the posts from gnomefiles.org but now is empty :(

http://gtk-apps.org/ could be an alternative, but there is not many apps ATM.
http://freshmeat.net is much older and have many apps listed, but it is not gnome/gtk only.

Yay! It is a really useful website. What surprises me most is that it seems to be the only one of its kind relating to Gnome.

I wrote a mail to them to hear the situation and they kindly fast replied:

"Thanks for the email. The backend is still offline, so people can't add new apps yet.

Eugenia"

Guess that the security hole is in the backend, so they disable it to be able to put gnomefiles online again, and now they have to work on this.
Actually, Eugenia doesn't give a delay in her answer, so I only hope we won't have to wait too long ...
