However one says it. Whether that is correct or not doesn't matter as long as I don't hear it.

I noticed we have no phonetic spellings hear, and people are winging it...

My name is written in Devanagari in my title: लारोज़ा

That is about how it is pronounced also. If you don't understand Devanagari, go to Wikipedia and they have the IPA symbols there for each character.

"red skwerrell" is pretty close to the pronunciation I use.

I think some people might pronounce it "red skweerell".

I have heard that "squirrel" is a difficult word to pronounce (especially for those learning English as a second language). I'm not sure if squirrels have difficulty with it.

Perhaps.
It's a play on letters and a number as opposed to a play on words.
It's my initials and a 2.

Indeed. Even English speakers have trouble with it. I remember years ago I saw an interview with two of the members of Duran Duran (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duran_Duran) (English pop band) and one of them could not pronounce "squirrel". He was teased mercilessly.

I think my phonetics were a little off in my earlier post. Perhaps it's closer to "skwerl". What I wrote earlier ("skwerrell") probably puts too much emphasis on the consonants. I give up.

This thread is more interesting than I thought it might be. I know how to pronounce Barrucadu now. :)

A few things that would be hard in other languages would be the initial "s" (Spanish), the initial two consonants. The weird dipthong (trithong?) and the rr's and l's in it.

you'd have to be from a different alphabet to mispronounce my name.

Or language other than english.

Not all languages have the "ch-" sound as in "change". In German, it could be a "sh" sound, or a very gutteral "k".

The "u" also has different sounds. A Spanish speaker would probably see "choocky choockaloock" (how an English speaker would read it). Also, Not all languages (in fact, a lot of them) use the "k".

That's more à la French. The scots do some guttural thing which sounds more like clearing the throat than anything else. So do the Germans, by the way.

Fancy being called Xooggee Xookuh-loog? (Where X is the guttural sound)
