I recently installed Ubuntu 8.04 onto a Compaq Presario Laptop and have been unable to connect to to the internet either through a ethernet or a wireless card. I need help, I've been screwing around with it for a month or so off and on and I really just need someone to help me that is knowledgeable in ubuntu.
I'd really prefer to meet someone someplace and go about it that way. I'm writing this on my parents laptop.

try typing in a Terminal: lspci | grep Ethernet this command will give you the make and model of your Ethernet card
also check this link (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupport) to see if your card is supported.
some more info on your hardware will help us to help you and a meeting in person probably wont be needed.

There are some user groups in the area where you may find some assistance.
www.pacsnet.org and the linux group http://pacslinux.com
or http://www.phillylinux.org/

Honestly, I don't think a 2600 meeting is where you should be, yet.
Just my opinion.
