Internet Lingo Lesson

I am not a big fan of using (what I call) internet lingo. So I am not up-to-date with all the fancy words that I see and therefore don't understand everyone's posts. I do know some of the obvious ones; lol, rofl, but I saw one today that I see all the time and am not completely sure how to translate it: "Pwnd"
I know what "owned" and "owns" means, and "pwnd" seems to be a derivative of that. Am I right?

Please give me some explanations of some other phrases that I might not understand. I would appreciate it so that I don't get left behind in the discussions :).

P.S. I did use a lot of lingo back when I used to play FFXI. It sure made for less typing and faster responses.

Pwn (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pwn) has become a term in its own right but retains the same pronunciation, oʊn. The reason for this is because it is simply a typo and really has no origin other than in online text. It means "beat" or "beaten," as in "YOU JUST GOT PWNT!" meaning "You were just beaten."

Etymology

The word "pwn" may have arisen and spread as a common typo of the word "own," since the 'p' and 'o' keys are adjacent on a standard English keyboard.[4][5]

Pronunciation

Given the recent development of the word and its primary use in written form only, there is no single accepted pronunciation of pwn. However, "own", "pawn", "poon" (compare cwm) and "pone" are frequently used, and "pwen" is also considered an acceptable pronunciation although "pone" is the most common pronunciation.[6]

According to the staff at the popular company Pure Pwnage (a company that creates popular online videos like FPS Doug), the word "pwnage" or "pwn" is pronounced like the word's predecessor "own." The reason for this is because it is simply a typo and really has no origin other than in online text.
