View Full Version : [ubuntu] How to keep the workgroup setting across reboots?

I am trying out Ubuntu and Kubuntu this week (ver 8.04.1). I have both fully installed on separate disks and Samba sharing configured. My home sub-net is a peer to peer network with many Windows and linux boxes (about 8). I *finally* got Ubuntu and Kubuntu to allow real browsing, where I don't have to tell the operating system which shares to look for. However, after each reboot (no rants about reboots not being needed please) the "domain" (workgroup) setting is reset to blank. And Samba stops working. Nothing I do seems to be able to make browsing work again EXCEPT for becomming root and setting the "domain" to my workgroup in system-administration-network (which does work). I am using DHCP because I am behind a router and DHCP has always worked in the past for other operating systems and Linux distributions. I don't think DHCP is setting the domain, but who can tell these days.

I don't want to have to re-enter the workgroup after each boot.

How can I make the domain (workgroup) setting "stick" across reboots?

Thank You
