View Full Version : [ubuntu] Failed updated by update manager...

So I was in a partially connected network when I ran update manager. The network only allowed me to go to it's specific website to register to be able to use the internet. However, update manager was still able to get a list of updates that I needed and commenced to download them, however, soon after it said that the download failed and that the updates were not downloaded or installed.

Finally when I got a proper internet connection, I tried to get those same updates again, but they're not showing up anymore. It was a series of like 80 or so updates (I hadn't updated in a month or two).

Anyways, I wanted to know if there is any way to find out what those updates were and then update them manually, or perhaps do like an update rollback and get them again, or maybe telling update manager that those updates need to be redownloaded or whatever.

Thanks for the help.

Did you try clicking on the Reload/Refresh button? I have seen many times the old update list being shows as it is cached in the system. I have to get a new list each and everytime I want to.

Or use this command in the Terminal

sudo apt-get update

I tried sudo apt-get update, and that didn't seem to work. This is the output I got from it:

Then I tried update manager again but it gave me nothing. I'm guessing that the 'Ign' in front of the url means that update manager is ignoring that source for whatever reason, but I checked my sources.list file and none of those sources are commented in there.

I'm not sure where the reload/refresh button that you're talking about is located, but I do click the 'check' button on update manager.

I guess another issue is also figuring out if this needs any attention at all. Is it ok to just ignore and move on? I'm just concerned whether some of those updates were crucial or not.

Here's my sources.list file, figured someone might ask for it sooner or later.

I see no problems in the config file or in the update output. Its quite mysterious where all these went? Quite confusing....

Saying Frankly, I am not able to find out the real reason. :(
I would personally suggest you to wait for next update. New updates are available in 10 days usually.

Well, that incident happened sometime in August 25th or 26th. I've gotten other updates since then, but none that accumulate to the number that I was supposed to get that day. When I tried to update that day it said it had around 80 new updates to install (like I said, I didn't use my computer nearly all summer). Since then I've only seen around 5-15 max updates being installed.

I've been trying to search online for anyone that has had a similar problem, but have had no luck. I guess if we can't figure out how to fix it, should it at least be something I should be worried about? I guess what I'm asking is, is it worth it for me to reinstall the OS and start from scratch to get those updates? I'd really rather not, but I'd prefer to do that than have things crashing on me in the future.

I dont think you should reinstall the OS just for those updates. Its really not worth it. Your system is not going to become deadly insecure without those updates. I just suggest - Chill , nothing unexpected is going to happen.

Alrighty, I'll do just that.

Thanks.

Are you able to check what those updates where by looking in Synaptic Package Manager File>History?

Edit: what is the output to

sudo apt-get upgrade
