I drive a 1983 Mercedes-Benz 300D Turbo (w123 chassis) and I'd like to get a car stereo that supports Vorbis audio. I'm a total newbie when it comes to cars, so I don't even know how to tell if a unit will even be compatible with my car.

No car stereo is compatible with a car except the one from the factory. You will always needs a wiring harness to connect the two(not including hard wiring). You may also need a car adapter kit so that the head unit fits in the dash correctly..

As far as vorbis goes, good luck.

I don't think you will find a car stereo capable of using ogg vorbis, but a much easier method is to buy a car stereo with a iphone/mp3 player adapter. Then get a compatible media player, hook that up through the car stereo, and your rolling.

Has no one ever heard of google?

Anyway, these players will support Ogg Vorbis:

Do your research before buying, not all of them work that well. I have read the JVC units work quiet well and should be easy to obtain. Read the whole hydrogenaudio thread above.

99% of units will fit, it just requires you to get the wiring right and that is really not hard to do.

The wiring can be done either with an adapter (http://tinyurl.com/5wfj6h) (easy way) or with Scotchclips (http://tinyurl.com/65ku8p) which is harder and messier, but still not that difficult.

Last time I did a search for that on Google (few months ago) I didn't find a unit that was worth even bothering with.

This question has popped before from what I recall and back then I also found stuff on google.

Anyway, they are out there, just buy the right one ;)

PS. The JVC units look like a winner to me.
