My video players (VLC, Mplayer, Totem) don't play the sound that goes with my video files (AVI and OGG). However, other applications play sound with no problems (firefox + youtube, for instance, or BMP). Any ideas? The video files are not corrupt, that's for sure.

im having a similar problem :(
But i just did upgrade, update, dist-upgrade and restarted and that seemed to fix the sound problem, but opening gnome-sound-recorder then stopped it working again, i also heard that some other programs that record also break it,

I'm having this issue too, with one exception. My sound issue is only with VLC, not with Movie Player. The video is completely fine, and I know the files aren't corrupt, they play fine in winxp, but not in hardy. I've installed I think every codec known to man, and still no luck.
